Why Hitachi Vantara maintenance via TechCare instead of Hitachi Support / Hitachi Premium Support

Hitachi Vantara has a specific market: DACH banks, insurers, critical infrastructure and government agencies often run VSP storage productively for 10+ years. This hardware is enterprise-grade, durably constructed and runs technically stable well past official EOSL. Hitachi Support, however, follows a strict lifecycle plan and discontinues service after 7 years — OEM refresh pressure kicks in even though the hardware still works flawlessly.

TPM offers the classic path: hardware maintenance with OEM original parts from our own inventory and certified refurbisher sources, SLA up to 24×7×4, German-speaking engineers with mainframe-adjacent expertise. 30 to 60 percent below Hitachi Support on current generations, 60 to 75 percent on EOSL platforms (VSP G1000, USP-V, AMS).

What does TPM cost compared to Hitachi Support?
Current VSP F/G platforms 30 to 50 percent savings vs. Hitachi Premium Support. VSP G1000 (EOSL) up to 70 percent. A VSP G600 with 24×7×4 costs 12,000 to 16,000 EUR/year with Hitachi, 5,500 to 8,000 EUR with TechCare.
Can you service VSP G1000 past EOSL?
Yes — one of our core use cases. VSP G1000 / G1500 reached official service end in 2024 but remains productive in many DACH banks and government agencies. We stock disk modules (SAS/NVMe), controller boards, cache memory, FICON adapters and power supplies for all common G1000 configurations. Coverage economically feasible for 3+ years.
What happens with Hitachi Ops Center and SVOS?
Hitachi Ops Center (management software) and SVOS (storage virtualization OS) are part of the storage system and continue to work. Active-Mirror, HUR, GAD and TrueCopy remain functional without active contract. SVOS security patches may be limited per generation — typically not an issue with stable configurations.
Which SLA levels do you offer?
Parts Only, 5×9 NBD, 24×7×4 — all freely selectable. For VSP F/G tier-1 production we recommend 24×7×4. On VSP G1000/USP-V with dual-controller redundancy 5×9 NBD sometimes suffices since the platform architecture compensates component failures itself.
Are you BAIT/MaRisk compliant for banking audits?
Yes — Hitachi VSP fleets are often in BAIT/MaRisk-regulated banking data centers and our maintenance meets the relevant requirements: SED encryption key management with documented custody chain, German-speaking engineers with background check, data carrier destruction per BSI/DoD standards, ISO 27001 conformity. Compliance evidence per audit on request.
Do we lose the warranty?
No. Factory warranty and Hitachi support contracts are separate contractual services, not part of hardware ownership. After factory warranty you're free to choose any maintenance partner.
