Which VSP G models we service

The VSP G-Series is Hitachi's hybrid backbone — block storage with FMD (Flash Module Drive) and SAS drives in mixed populations. Three generations coexist in DACH data centers: G200-G800 (released 2014, many already EOSL), G350-G900 (2018, EOSL approaching), G1000/G1500 (high-end 2014, EOSL reached). We service all three fully.

Why TPM maintenance instead of Hitachi Vantara Support

Hitachi Vantara has strategically moved away from classic hardware maintenance — today's focus is on Pentaho Analytics, Lumada software and HCI platforms. The result: renewals for older VSP G generations are often only available at rates designed to make a refresh economically more attractive. For G200-G800 (Gen1) and G1000/G1500, EOSL has long been reached. TPM is the only path to keep this hardware productive without forcing a refresh.

We stock G-specific components in depth — FMD modules of all sizes (1.6 TB to 14 TB), SAS and NL-SAS disks of all generations, cache modules, controller boards for Gen1 and Gen2, PSUs. Hitachi Storage Navigator and Hitachi Command Suite as local management tools continue to work — the software license is part of the storage system.

EOSL status of VSP G generations

Hitachi Vantara typically does not extend standard support for VSP G beyond 7 years. For Gen1 models (released 2014), EOSL has long been reached — renewal is often no longer available. TPM keeps this hardware productive without forcing a refresh.

Which VSP G models do you service?
Complete G-series in both midrange generations plus high-end: G200, G400, G600, G800 (Gen1, 2014), G350, G370, G700, G900 (Gen2, 2018) and G1000, G1500 (high-end, 2014). Including all connectivity options (16G FC, 8G FC for older Gen, 10/40 GbE for iSCSI/NVMe-FC).
What does TPM cost for VSP G compared to Hitachi Vantara Support?
30 to 60 percent savings, up to 70 percent on EOSL Gen1 and G1000/G1500. A VSP G700 (Gen2) with 24×7×4 costs 14,000 to 18,000 EUR/year with Hitachi Vantara, 6,000 to 9,000 EUR with TechCare. Fully-loaded G1500 higher in absolute terms, same spread.
Can you service EOSL G200-G800 Gen1?
Yes, a focus area of our Hitachi business. G200/G400/G600/G800 (released 2014, EOSL 2021-2022) are still productive in many DACH mid-market and enterprise environments. Hitachi Vantara often no longer offers renewal for these models — we stock FMD modules, cache boards and controllers.
What about FMD modules — can you still get OEM original modules?
Yes. FMDs (Flash Module Drives) are Hitachi-specific custom SSDs — we stock 1.6 TB, 3.2 TB, 6.4 TB and 14 TB FMDs of all Hitachi generations. For very old 800 GB FMDs (early Gen1), availability is limited, we check individually. Re-manufactured FMDs are an option when OEM stock is depleted.
Do Storage Navigator and Command Suite still work?
Yes. Storage Navigator (local management console) is part of the VSP firmware and continues to work without licensing. Command Suite (central multi-system management) often requires an active Hitachi contract — customers using Command Suite centrally should keep the software subscription separately.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for VSP G?
VSP G is classic tier-1 — SAP HANA, Oracle databases, VMware clusters. We recommend 24×7×4 with German-speaking onsite engineer. For secondary VSP G as replication target or test environment, 5×9 NBD can be economical.
What about Universal Replicator and TrueCopy?
Universal Replicator (asynchronous) and TrueCopy (synchronous) are part of the VSP firmware and continue to work without licensing — including ShadowImage snapshots. Code updates for newer microcode versions are limited without an active Hitachi contract. Usually no issue with stable configurations.
