HPE TAPE & BACKUP MAINTENANCE · TPM AFTER HPE POINTNEXT

HPE Tape & Backup Maintenance — vendor-independent service for StoreOnce and StoreEver

We service HPE tape and backup hardware after HPE Pointnext expiration — vendor-independent, with OEM original parts and SLA up to 24×7×4. StoreOnce deduplication appliances and StoreEver MSL tape libraries cover two critical backup areas.

Which HPE Tape & Backup models we service

Backup infrastructure is often forgotten regarding maintenance — until a restore fails. StoreOnce appliances typically have 8-10 years of service life, MSL tape libraries even longer.

StoreOnce Dedup-Appliances
StoreOnce 3100 · 3520 · 3540 · 5100 · 5200 · 5250 · 5500 · 5650 · 5660
StoreEver MSL Tape-Libraries
MSL2024 · MSL4048 · MSL6480 · MSL G3-Generation
ältere Tape-Drives
DAT 320 · LTO Ultrium 6/7/8 · LTO Ultrium-Drives in StoreEver

Why TPM maintenance instead of HPE Pointnext (Tape/Backup)

HPE Pointnext for backup and tape hardware is above-average expensive — and on older StoreOnce 3100/3520 or MSL2024 renewal is no longer actively offered. StoreOnce appliances are technically stable for 8-10 years, MSL tape libraries even longer. Hardware refresh is suggested even though the devices run under load.

We service all StoreOnce and StoreEver generations with OEM original parts — disks for StoreOnce dedup, robotics modules for MSL libraries, LTO drives, control electronics, PSUs. StoreOnce Catalyst licenses and backup software integrations run separately via HPE.

Generations timeline & TPM coverage

Per hardware generation: vendor phase (slate) and TechCare coverage window (teal) up to ~5 years post-OEM EOSL.

EOSL status of major generations

Once the vendor ends official support, renewals become unavailable or disproportionately expensive. TPM closes exactly this gap — same hardware coverage, same SLA, significantly cheaper.

Model family Released OEM support ends TPM status
StoreOnce 3100/3520 2014 2022 Recommended
StoreOnce 5100/5200/5500 2015 2023 Recommended
StoreEver MSL2024 (G2) 2010 2020 Recommended
StoreEver MSL4048/6480 2012-2015 2024+ Supported
LTO Ultrium 6 Drives 2012 2020 Recommended

FAQ on HPE Tape & Backup maintenance

Which HPE tape and backup hardware do you service?
We service StoreOnce deduplication appliances (complete 3000 and 5000 family), StoreEver MSL tape libraries and LTO tape drives (Ultrium 6/7/8). Robotics, control electronics, disks, PSUs, fans.
What does TPM cost for StoreOnce/StoreEver vs. HPE Pointnext?
30 to 60 percent savings vs. HPE Pointnext, up to 70 percent on EOSL StoreOnce 3100/3520 or older MSL2024.
Tape robotics is the most common failure — how fast do you swap?
For MSL tape library robotics we swap depending on SLA — within 4 hours on-site for 24×7×4, next business day for 5×9 NBD. Robotics modules we stock in DACH warehouse.
Can you still service older StoreOnce 3100/3520?
Yes. StoreOnce 3100/3520 (released 2014, EOSL 2022) and older 5100/5200 are still productive in many DACH mid-market backup environments.
Which SLA levels for backup hardware?
Parts Only, 5×9 NBD, 24×7×4 — freely selectable. For productive backup windows 24×7×4 makes sense; for tape libraries as secondary backup 5×9 NBD often suffices.
What about StoreOnce Catalyst and backup software licenses?
StoreOnce Catalyst licenses and software subscriptions run separately via HPE and are not affected by a hardware maintenance switch.
Do we lose the warranty?
No. Factory warranty and HPE Pointnext are contractual services.
