QUANTUM MAINTENANCE · TPM FOR DXI, SCALAR TAPE AND STORNEXT

Quantum Maintenance — vendor-independent service for backup, tape and archive

We service Quantum backup, archive and tier storage hardware after Quantum Service expiration — vendor-independent, with OEM original parts and SLA up to 24×7×4. DXi appliances, Scalar Tape Libraries (i3 to i6000), StorNext and ActiveScale. Also in the EOSL period for older Scalar i500 or DXi6000 generations. Typical TPM topics at the storage layer: controller failover testing during replacement (data-loss risk on misconfiguration), microcode updates without OEM subscription, and SED encryption key management for DORA/NIS2 compliance.

Quantum Quantum Hardware Support vs. TechCare TPM

How does TPM compare to the OEM contract?

You save 34–54% per yearQuantum Quantum Hardware Support vs. TechCare TPM · example calculation
Quantum Hardware Support
3.500–5.200 €/Jahr
TechCare TPM
2.300–2.400 €/Jahr
−34–54%

Example Quantum Scalar i6 tape library with 4-year Hardware Support: EUR 3,500–5,200/year OEM, EUR 2,300–2,400/year with TechCare TPM.

  • EOSL hardware: On EOSL tape libraries (Scalar i500, older i6000 generations, DXi6500/8500) 40–65 % savings vs. Quantum Hardware Support — tape drive replacements via TPM still possible.
  • Multi-year contract: 3-year TPM contract: additional 5–10 % discount, 5-year contract: 10–15 %. Plus fixed-price lock against OEM list-price increases.

Why Quantum maintenance via TechCare instead of Quantum Service / Quantum Hardware Support

Quantum hardware is mainly present in the DACH backup and archive segment — Scalar Tape Libraries as compliance storage in regulated industries, DXi as backup target behind Veeam, NetBackup or Commvault. Quantum Service contracts are particularly hard to renew for older Scalar i500 and DXi6000 generations.

We service all Quantum platforms with OEM original parts — LTO drives (LTO-7/8/9), robotics components for Scalar libraries, DXi controllers, StorNext hardware. StorNext software subscription stays with Quantum.

Storage-specific TPM topics: controller failover test after every part swap (no black-box replacement), microcode updates without OEM subscription via mirror repository, and SED encryption key management with documented custody chain for DORA/NIS2 compliance.

FAQ on Quantum maintenance

Which Quantum hardware do you service?
DXi deduplication appliances (complete family from DXi4000/6000 heritage to DXi9000 series), Scalar Tape Libraries (i3, i6, i500, i6000), Quantum LTO drives (LTO-7/8/9), StorNext hardware and ActiveScale Object Storage.
What does TPM cost compared to Quantum Service?
For Quantum hardware we see 30 to 60 percent savings vs. Quantum Service, up to 70 percent on EOSL models. A Scalar i6 with 6 modules and 24×7×4 contract costs 5,000 to 8,000 EUR/year with Quantum, 2,000 to 3,500 EUR with TechCare.
Can you repair tape library robotics?
Yes — robotics is the most common failure point on tape libraries. We have experience with robotics components across all Scalar generations (i3 to i6000): grippers, motors, rails, barcode scanners, X/Y drives. Complete LTO drive swaps (LTO-7/8/9) also covered.
Which SLA levels for backup hardware?
Parts Only, 5×9 NBD, 24×7×4 — all freely selectable. For backup hardware 5×9 NBD often suffices because backup windows are typically at night and a day's delay is rarely critical. For compliance-relevant tape stacks we recommend 24×7×4.
Can you service older Scalar i500 and DXi6000?
Yes. Scalar i500 (long lifecycle, many install bases in DACH backup stacks, long past EOSL) and DXi4500/6500/6700/6800 are our specialty.
What about StorNext software?
StorNext software subscription runs separately via Quantum. We service the StorNext hardware (Xcellis Workflow Director, Metadata Controllers). Software updates remain with Quantum.
Do we lose the warranty?
No. Factory warranty and Quantum Service are contractual services.
