QUANTUM DXI · TPM FOR DEDUPLICATION APPLIANCES

Quantum DXi Maintenance — vendor-independent service for deduplication backup

We service Quantum DXi deduplication appliances after factory warranty and Quantum Support — vendor-independent, with OEM disks and components, SLA up to 24×7×4. Complete family: DXi9000-Series (current), DXi6900/6900-S (mid-range), DXi4000/6000 (older). 30 to 60 percent below Quantum list price, up to 70 percent on EOSL models.

Which DXi models we service

Quantum DXi platforms are dedicated deduplication backup targets — typically behind Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup or TSM. Three generations are active in the European market: DXi9000 (current), DXi6900 (mid-range), and older DXi generations with wide EOSL spread.

DXi9000-Series · current gen
DXi9000 · DXi9100 · DXi9200 (scalable to multi-PB)
DXi6900 · mid-range
DXi6900 · DXi6900-S (typically 17 TB to 510 TB usable)
DXi4000/6000 · older generations
DXi4500 · DXi6500 · DXi6700 · DXi6800 (2012-2018, EOSL reached)
Components & connectivity
SAS/NL-SAS disks · cache modules · controller boards · 10/25 GbE · 16/32G FC · NDMP

Why TPM maintenance instead of Quantum Support for DXi

Quantum has gone through several strategic shifts in recent years — focus on StorNext for M&E, ActiveScale for object, plus cloud targets via Veeam/CommVault. For the DXi backup appliances, renewal behavior remains conservatively unchanged: standard support for DXi6500/6700/6800 has largely lapsed, DXi9000 renewals come with refresh pressure. TPM is the pragmatic path.

We service all DXi generations with OEM disks (SAS, NL-SAS), cache modules, controller boards and PSUs. DXi software (deduplication engine, DXi Advanced Reporting, Veeam integration) is part of the appliance firmware and runs without licensing. Code updates to newer DXi software versions require an active Quantum contract.

Generations timeline & TPM coverage

Per hardware generation: vendor phase (slate) and TechCare coverage window (teal) up to ~5 years post-OEM EOSL.

EOSL status of DXi generations

Quantum typically renews DXi support for 5-7 years, after which it expires or is offered at refresh-driver pricing. Older DXi6000 generations have largely reached EOSL.

FAQ on Quantum DXi maintenance

Which Quantum DXi models do you service?
Complete DXi family: DXi9000-Series (DXi9000, DXi9100, DXi9200), DXi6900-Series (DXi6900 and DXi6900-S), older DXi4500, DXi6500, DXi6700 and DXi6800. Including all connectivity options (16/32G FC, 10/25 GbE) and disk configurations.
What does TPM cost for DXi compared to Quantum Support?
30 to 60 percent savings, up to 70 percent on EOSL models like DXi6500 or DXi6800. A DXi6900 with 24×7×4 costs 11,000 to 15,000 EUR/year with Quantum, 4,500 to 7,000 EUR with TechCare. DXi9000 higher in absolute terms.
Can you service older DXi6500/6700/6800?
Yes, a focus area of our DXi business. DXi6500 (2012, EOSL 2019), DXi6700 (2014, EOSL 2021) and DXi6800 (2015, EOSL 2022) are still productive in many DACH backup architectures. SAS and NL-SAS disks of all generations, cache modules and controllers stocked.
Does the DXi deduplication engine continue to work without a Quantum contract?
Yes. The deduplication engine is part of the DXi firmware and continues to work without licensing — global deduplication, DXi Advanced Reporting, Veeam/CommVault/NetBackup/TSM integration. Code updates to newer DXi software versions require an active Quantum contract.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for DXi?
DXi are backup targets — backup windows are typically at night. 5×9 NBD is usually sufficient, a nightly outage is acceptable if the next backup window remains reachable. For DXi9000 as central multi-site replication target, we recommend 24×7×4.
What about DXi replication between sites?
DXi replication (DXi-to-DXi) is part of the firmware and continues to work without licensing — even when the two DXi targets are different generations (e.g., DXi6800 as source, DXi9000 as target). Bandwidth optimization and snapshot replication stay active.
Can you still get disks for older DXi generations?
Yes. NL-SAS disks (2 TB, 4 TB, 6 TB, 8 TB) for DXi6500-6900 are stocked. SAS cache disks (300 GB, 600 GB) as well. For very old DXi4500 disks, availability is limited; we check individually or use refurbishing partners.
How fast do we get a quote?
Within 48 hours after receipt of your inventory list with model, generation and serial number.
