LENOVO THINKAGILE HX · TPM FOR HCI WITH NUTANIX

Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Maintenance — vendor-independent hardware service for HX series with Nutanix AOS

We service the Lenovo ThinkAgile HX series vendor-independent — complete HX family across all classes: HX1320 and HX2320 (entry HCI for ROBO/edge), HX3320 and HX3321 (mainstream HCI for standard datacenter workloads), HX5520 and HX5520-C (storage-heavy for file/block-intensive workloads) and HX7820 (high-end/compute-heavy for demanding database and VDI clusters). Hardware base is Lenovo ThinkSystem (SR630, SR650, SR850, SR860 platforms with HX configuration). With OEM components from our own warehouse and certified refurbishing pools, SLA up to 24×7×4. 30 to 60 percent below Lenovo hardware support or Nutanix hardware support component. Critical note: TPM is hardware maintenance. Nutanix AOS software subscription stays separate — you renew your AOS license directly with Nutanix or through an authorized AOS reseller. Lenovo XClarity (out-of-band management) and Foundation/Prism (HCI management) stay fully functional under TPM.

Which ThinkAgile HX models we service

Lenovo ThinkAgile HX started in 2017 as Lenovo's HCI appliance line with Nutanix software pre-installed. Hardware base is Lenovo ThinkSystem servers (SR630 1U, SR650 2U, SR850 4-socket, SR860 4-socket high-end) with HX-specific configuration: NIC, drive layout, BIOS settings optimized for HCI. From TPM perspective we service the underlying Lenovo hardware with the same pool we use for plain ThinkSystem servers — same components, same service standard.

Why TPM maintenance for ThinkAgile HX

ThinkAgile HX has a commercial peculiarity: hardware support can be purchased at Lenovo (Lenovo Premier Support for ThinkAgile) OR at Nutanix (as part of the Nutanix bundle) — depending on how the original purchase was structured. In both cases the hardware support component is typically more expensive than plain ThinkSystem maintenance because HCI bundle pricing applies. TPM reduces hardware maintenance costs to what Lenovo ThinkSystem hardware would cost without HCI bundle — typically 40-50 percent below Lenovo Premier HCI or Nutanix hardware bundle. AOS subscription stays unchanged directly at Nutanix, completely independent of whether hardware support was at Lenovo or Nutanix — you simply choose hardware maintenance separately.

We service ThinkAgile HX hardware with original Lenovo components from our warehouse. HX platforms are ThinkSystem servers we maintain daily — SR630/SR650 current and stable in pool, SR850/SR860 (HX7820 base) for demanding high-end clusters also available. Lenovo XClarity (out-of-band management on ThinkSystem boards) continues license-free under TPM — remote console, power management, hardware logging, BMC operations all active. Lenovo XClarity Administrator (central management platform) is software subscription, independent of hardware maintenance — stays at Lenovo if actively used. Foundation, Prism Element and Prism Central continue with your Nutanix AOS subscription. HCI-specific configuration (drive layout, NIC setup, HCI-optimized BIOS) stays on the cluster — we swap components, HCI configuration preserved.

FAQ on ThinkAgile HX maintenance

Which ThinkAgile HX models do you service?
Complete ThinkAgile HX family: HX1000/HX2000 series (HX1320 entry-1U, HX2320 entry-2U), HX3000 series (HX3320, HX3321 mainstream HCI), HX5000 series (HX5520 storage-heavy, HX5520-C extended capacity) and HX7000 series (HX7820 high-end/4-socket). Hardware base Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630, SR650, SR850, SR860 in V1 and V2 generations. Plus older ThinkAgile HX on System x M5 base on request. Including all Lenovo power supplies, NVMe/SATA SSDs, DDR4 RAM, ThinkSystem mainboards, 10/25/100G NICs and HBAs.
What does TPM cost for ThinkAgile HX compared to Lenovo or Nutanix support?
30 to 60 percent savings. HX3320 (4-node mainstream HCI cluster) with 24×7×4 costs 7,000-12,000 EUR/year cluster-wide at Lenovo Premier or Nutanix bundle, 3,000-5,500 EUR with TechCare. HX1320 (entry 1U/node) 1,800-3,000 EUR Lenovo/Nutanix, 800-1,400 EUR TechCare. HX5520 4,500-7,500 vs 2,000-3,500. HX7820 (4-socket high-end) 6,500-11,000 vs 2,800-5,000. AOS subscription independent — identical across all options. For 5+ HX clusters, hardware savings add to five-figure annual amounts.
What happens to our Nutanix AOS software subscription when switching to TPM?
Nothing changes about your AOS subscription. Just as with NX hardware, software subscription is commercially and contractually separate from hardware maintenance for ThinkAgile HX. You continue to renew AOS (Acropolis OS, AHV hypervisor, Prism Element/Prism Central, all licensed features) directly with Nutanix or through your authorized AOS reseller. For ThinkAgile HX a second separation applies: Lenovo XClarity Pro / XClarity Orchestrator (central Lenovo management platforms) are software subscriptions at Lenovo, independent of both hardware maintenance and Nutanix AOS — those actively using XClarity Pro keep it with Lenovo. Do not cancel AOS or XClarity Pro — what we replace is exclusively the hardware maintenance component (either Lenovo Premier Support for ThinkAgile, or the hardware component of a Nutanix bundle).
Do XClarity, Foundation and Prism continue without a Lenovo or Nutanix hardware contract?
Yes, all three. Lenovo XClarity (out-of-band management on ThinkSystem boards in HX hardware) continues license-free — remote console, power management, sensor telemetry, BMC standard operations all active. XClarity Pro (extended lifecycle features) and XClarity Administrator/Orchestrator (central management platforms) are separate software subscriptions, independent of hardware maintenance — keep with Lenovo if actively used. Foundation (Nutanix imaging) freely available from Nutanix. Prism Element/Central continue with AOS subscription. BIOS and XClarity firmware updates require active Lenovo contract but uncritical with stable configurations — we recommend deploying latest versions before maintenance switch.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for ThinkAgile HX?
Workload-dependent like NX, with similar cluster redundancy logic: HX3320/HX3321 in productive mainstream HCI clusters (tier-1 apps, databases, business-critical VMs): 24×7×4 with German-speaking onsite engineer standard. For 4+ node clusters with RF2/RF3, 5×9 NBD per node economical because single node failure absorbed by cluster. HX1320/HX2320 ROBO/edge single-node: 24×7×4 mandatory. HX5520 productive storage-heavy (files/backup): 24×7×4 typical, 5×9 NBD with cluster redundancy possible. HX7820 (high-end 4-socket for databases/VDI): 24×7×4 mandatory due to high workload concentration per node. Old pre-V2 in refresh bridge: Parts Only or 5×9 NBD sufficient.
How is component availability for older ThinkAgile HX?
Very good for current and mid-cycle generations, structured for older. ThinkAgile HX on SR630-V2/SR650-V2 (Ice Lake, 2021+) and SR630/SR650 V1 (Cascade Lake, 2019-2021) completely in active Lenovo component pool — same components as plain ThinkSystem servers, high DACH install density. SR850/SR860 (HX7820 base, 4-socket) somewhat more specific but structured available. ThinkAgile HX on older ThinkSystem first-build (Skylake, 2017-2019) — refurbishing pools deeply available, often most cost-effective for fleets in this generation. Very old ThinkAgile HX on System x M5 (pre-2017): individual risk assessment per model, often refresh strategically more sensible than long-term TPM bridge.
When does TPM for ThinkAgile HX make sense vs. refresh or platform switch?
Comparable to NX with Lenovo-specific accents: (1) Stable productive HX clusters on V1/V2 with active AOS subscription and no strategic platform switch plan — TPM reduces hardware costs significantly. (2) Older ThinkSystem first-build HX (Skylake) with 2-3 years until refresh — TPM bridges economically, AOS and XClarity stay active. (3) Multi-site HX fleets with ROBO/edge concentration — multi-site consolidation via TPM gives ops and reporting benefits, especially when HX1320/HX2320 run in many small locations. Refresh/switch sensible when: (a) strategic multi-vendor reduction — e.g. consolidation to VMware VCF, Azure Stack HCI or pure public cloud migration; (b) AOS renewal decision approaching with platform evaluation; (c) very old M5 hardware where workload requirements exceed generation. For migration strategies we recommend TPM only as bridge until migration complete, not as long-term lock-in extension.
Can we have ThinkAgile HX, NX and multi-OEM Nutanix in the same contract?
Yes, exactly the multi-class use case for Nutanix-strategic customers. We service ThinkAgile HX (Lenovo ThinkSystem hardware) plus Nutanix NX (Supermicro hardware) plus Dell XC plus HPE DX plus Cisco UCS-Nutanix under one hardware contract — one point of contact, one SLA report set, German-speaking onsite engineer for all platforms, unified asset overview and EOSL tracking. AOS subscription stays separate at Nutanix for all platforms. Plus: other Lenovo hardware (plain ThinkSystem, ThinkAgile MX/VX, Lenovo storage) in same contract — natural consolidation for Lenovo-strategic customers with multi-platform fleets. Same for pure Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Pure storage — multi-vendor TPM is our strength.
