NUTANIX MULTI-OEM · TPM FOR DELL XC, HPE DX, CISCO UCS

Nutanix Multi-OEM Maintenance — vendor-independent hardware service for Dell XC, HPE DX and Cisco UCS-Nutanix

We service Nutanix clusters on multi-OEM hardware vendor-independent — three central platforms under one contract: Dell XC series (XC640, XC740xd, XC940, XC6420 — on Dell PowerEdge R640/R740xd/R940/C6420 base with Nutanix AOS), HPE DX series (DX380, DX385, DX560 — on HPE ProLiant DL380/DL385/DL560 base, formerly HPE SimpliVity until branding migration in 2020) and Cisco UCS Nutanix bundle (Cisco UCS C220 M5/M6, C240 M5/M6 with Nutanix configuration). With OEM components from our warehouse and certified refurbishing pools — we service all three hardware worlds daily outside the Nutanix context too (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Cisco UCS are core platforms of our pool). SLA up to 24×7×4. 30 to 60 percent below OEM hardware support or Nutanix hardware bundle. Critical note: TPM is hardware maintenance. Nutanix AOS software subscription stays separate — you renew directly with Nutanix or through an authorized AOS reseller.

Which multi-OEM platforms we service

Three hardware worlds, all TPM-capable. Nutanix AOS runs identically on each platform — hardware configuration differs but HCI software experience and TPM logic are the same across all three: we service OEM hardware, AOS stays at Nutanix. For DACH customers with multi-year Nutanix strategy, mixed fleets are common — Dell XC in primary datacenter, HPE DX in branch locations, Cisco UCS-Nutanix as extension. Multi-class TPM brings these under one contract.

Why TPM maintenance for multi-OEM Nutanix

Multi-OEM Nutanix has a commercial double complexity: hardware support can be purchased at each OEM (Dell ProSupport for XC, HPE Pointnext for DX, Cisco SmartNet for UCS) OR at Nutanix (as part of bundle) — and after years of multi-vendor strategy all three constellations often run in parallel. Result: three different hardware contracts with different SLA structures, three escalation processes, three asset reports. TechCare solves this with one unified multi-OEM hardware contract — Dell XC plus HPE DX plus Cisco UCS-Nutanix under one construct, one German-speaking onsite engineer for all platforms, unified SLA reporting and EOSL tracking. Hardware savings typically 30-60 percent vs. respective OEM premium contracts or Nutanix hardware bundle components — operations simplification is the additional benefit often fully realized only in operations.

We service all three platforms with OEM components from our established pools for Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant and Cisco UCS — these platforms are not Nutanix specialties but standard hardware we maintain daily outside the HCI context. Nutanix-specific configuration (drive layout for tiered cache/capacity, NIC for cluster networking, BIOS for HCI workloads) stays on the cluster — we swap components, HCI config preserved. Out-of-band management runs license-free on all three: Dell iDRAC9 on XC, HPE iLO5 on DX, Cisco CIMC on UCS-Nutanix — all three fully active under TPM. Platform management software (Dell OpenManage, HPE OneView, Cisco UCS Manager) stays at respective OEMs as separate software subscriptions, independent of hardware maintenance — keep with OEM if actively used. Foundation and Prism continue with your Nutanix AOS subscription like on NX and HX.

FAQ on multi-OEM Nutanix maintenance

Which multi-OEM models do you service?
Three central hardware worlds under one contract: Dell XC series on PowerEdge base (XC640 1U, XC740xd 2U, XC940 4-socket, XC6420 4-node sled — on respective 14G/15G PowerEdge platforms). HPE DX series on ProLiant base (DX380 on DL380, DX385 on DL385 AMD, DX560 on DL560 4-socket — Gen10 and Gen11). Plus HPE SimpliVity legacy (SimpliVity 380, 380 Gen10, 2600 Gen10 — pre-DX branding migration). Cisco UCS Nutanix bundle (UCS C220 M5/M6 1U, UCS C240 M5/M6 2U with Nutanix configuration). Including all OEM power supplies, NVMe/SAS/SATA drives, DDR4 RAM, OEM mainboards, iDRAC/iLO/CIMC modules and NICs 10/25/40/100G.
What does TPM cost for multi-OEM Nutanix vs. OEM or Nutanix support?
30 to 60 percent savings on hardware component. Dell XC740xd 4-node cluster with 24×7×4 costs 8,000-13,000 EUR/year cluster-wide at Dell ProSupport for XC or Nutanix bundle, 3,500-5,500 EUR with TechCare. HPE DX380 4-node 8,500-14,000 vs 3,500-6,000. Cisco UCS C240 M6 4-node Nutanix 9,000-15,000 Cisco SmartNet or Nutanix bundle, 3,800-6,500 TechCare. HPE DX560 or Dell XC940 (4-socket high-end): 12,000-20,000 premium, 5,000-8,500 TechCare. HPE SimpliVity legacy: premium support often discontinued, TechCare 3,000-5,500 per cluster — up to 70 percent savings vs. any remaining conditions. AOS subscription independent — identical with or without TPM. For multi-OEM fleets across all three platforms, hardware savings plus ops simplification add to six-figure annual amounts.
What happens to our Nutanix AOS software subscription when switching to TPM?
Nothing changes about your AOS subscription. Just as with NX and ThinkAgile HX, software subscription is commercially and contractually separate from hardware maintenance — regardless of whether hardware is Dell XC, HPE DX or Cisco UCS-Nutanix. AOS (Acropolis OS, AHV hypervisor, Prism Element/Prism Central, all licensed features) you continue to renew directly with Nutanix or through authorized AOS reseller. Multi-OEM has additional: OEM-specific platform management software (Dell OpenManage Enterprise, HPE OneView, Cisco UCS Manager/Intersight) are separate software subscriptions at respective OEMs, independent of hardware maintenance. Those actively using Dell OpenManage/HPE OneView/Cisco Intersight keep subscription with OEM. Do not cancel AOS or OEM management software — what we replace is exclusively the hardware maintenance component.
Do iDRAC, iLO, CIMC and all management tools continue without an OEM hardware contract?
Yes, all. Out-of-band management on all three platforms continues license-free: Dell iDRAC9 (on XC PowerEdge base) — remote console, power, sensors, IPMI all active. HPE iLO5 (on DX ProLiant base) — same functionality. Cisco CIMC (on UCS C220/C240) — all standard management functions. Plus all standard IPMI operations cross-platform. Extended lifecycle features (iDRAC9 Enterprise with Group Manager, iLO5 Advanced, Cisco UCS Manager/Intersight) are separate software subscriptions at respective OEMs — independent of hardware maintenance. Platform management suites (OpenManage Enterprise, HPE OneView, UCS Manager/Intersight) stay at OEMs as subscriptions. Foundation and Prism continue with Nutanix AOS subscription. Firmware updates on newer iDRAC/iLO/CIMC or BIOS versions require active OEM contract but uncritical with stable HCI cluster configurations.
How does TPM work for HPE SimpliVity legacy fleets before the DX branding migration?
HPE SimpliVity is an important special case: HPE acquired SimpliVity in 2017 and operated the HCI business until 2020 under SimpliVity branding with proprietary OmniStack software architecture. 2020 saw migration to Nutanix AOS base and re-branding to HPE DX. DACH fleets show three classes: (1) Pre-2020 SimpliVity with OmniStack — clusters mostly still productive, OmniStack support can be limited. (2) SimpliVity hardware with AOS migration — physical hardware remained, software migrated to Nutanix 2020-2022. (3) HPE DX-branded from 2020+. For TPM: we service the underlying HPE ProLiant hardware in all three cases — that's DL380/DL385/DL560 platform hardware we maintain daily outside SimpliVity context. SimpliVity OmniStack software specifics (pre-AOS migration) are outside hardware maintenance — for actively used OmniStack clusters we recommend software status clarification with HPE before TPM switch.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for multi-OEM Nutanix?
Workload-dependent like NX and HX, with OEM-specific cluster topology consideration: Dell XC740xd or HPE DX380 in productive mainstream HCI clusters (tier-1 apps, databases, business-critical VMs): 24×7×4 with German-speaking onsite engineer standard. For 4+ node clusters with RF2/RF3, 5×9 NBD per node economical. Dell XC940 or HPE DX560 (4-socket high-end) in tier-1 database or VDI clusters: 24×7×4 mandatory due to high workload concentration per node. Cisco UCS-Nutanix: SLA follows cluster topology like XC and DX. HPE SimpliVity legacy: 24×7×4 for critical fleet clusters, 5×9 NBD for refresh bridge phase. XC6420 sled configuration (4-node 2U) — cluster redundancy in sled form factor often allows 5×9 NBD for stable workloads. For multi-OEM fleets with mixed workloads, we tier SLA per cluster individually.
Can you service older generations — Dell 13G, HPE Gen9, Cisco UCS M4?
Yes, all three. These older generations are still common in DACH fleets, especially for customers with multi-year Nutanix strategy and established clusters. Dell PowerEdge 13G (R630/R730xd) as XC predecessor is EOSL class, OEM support often limited — refurbishing pool deep at us. HPE ProLiant Gen9 (DL380 Gen9) as SimpliVity predecessor similar — well available, EOSL reached. Cisco UCS C220/C240 M4 (pre-M5) EOSL reached, refurbishing availability good. For very old 12G/Gen8/M3 models we check coverage individually — typically refresh only sensible option, not long-term TPM bridge. We create risk assessment per model and component for older generations before contract — for critical components like mainboards or PSUs, on-site spare strategy can make sense.
Can we have multi-OEM Nutanix, NX and ThinkAgile HX in the same contract?
Yes — full multi-class construct for Nutanix-strategic customers with historically grown fleets. We service Dell XC plus HPE DX plus Cisco UCS-Nutanix plus Nutanix NX (Supermicro-OEM) plus Lenovo ThinkAgile HX under one hardware contract — five hardware worlds, one point of contact, unified SLA reporting, German-speaking onsite engineer for all platforms, shared asset overview and EOSL tracking. AOS subscription stays separate at Nutanix for all platforms. Plus: other hardware outside Nutanix context (plain Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Cisco UCS server-only, Pure storage, NetApp, Cisco switching) in same contract — multi-vendor TPM explicitly our strength. For DACH mid-market and enterprise customers with grown multi-OEM Nutanix landscape, multi-class TPM is natural operations and cost consolidation.
