Veritas NetBackup Appliance Maintenance — vendor-independent service for NB 5230–5350

We service Veritas NetBackup Appliances after factory warranty and Veritas Support — vendor-independent, with OEM disks, cache modules and controller components, SLA up to 24×7×4. Complete family: NB 5230 (older, EOSL), 5240, 5340 (with Storage Shelves), 5350 (current). 30 to 60 percent below Veritas list price. Plus: planning security for the next 3-5 years — independent of strategic decisions after the Cohesity merger.

Which NetBackup Appliance models we service

NetBackup Appliances have been the pre-integrated hardware platform for the NetBackup software since 2010. Four generations coexist in DACH data centers: NB 5230 (released 2014, EOSL reached), 5240 (2017, mid-range), 5340 (2018, modularly scalable to multi-PB with Storage Shelves), 5350 (2021+, current generation with higher performance and capacity).

Why TPM maintenance for NetBackup Appliances

Veritas was acquired by Cohesity in late 2023, the merger took place in 2024. NetBackup continues under the Veritas brand, but strategic roadmap decisions are increasingly shaped by Cohesity — how maintenance terms, EOSL cycles and support tiers will develop over the next 2-3 years is an open question for existing customers. TPM is not a substitute for a strategic decision, but it creates planning security: 3-5 years of stable maintenance terms without refresh pressure, independent of Veritas/Cohesity strategy pivots.

We service NetBackup Appliances with OEM NL-SAS disks of all sizes (4 TB to 18 TB), MSDP cache SSDs and controller components from our own warehouse. NetBackup software licenses, MSDP deduplication and all backup functions (Accelerator, NetBackup Catalyst, Auto Image Replication) are part of the software subscription and independent of hardware maintenance — they continue as before. Code updates to newer NetBackup versions require an active Veritas contract.

EOSL status of NetBackup Appliance generations

NetBackup Appliances follow a 6-7 year Veritas lifecycle. NB 5230 has reached EOSL, 5240 is approaching, 5340 and 5350 are current — the latter with potentially changed roadmap cycles after the Cohesity merger.

Model family Released OEM support ends TPM status
NetBackup 5230 2014 2021–2022 Recommended
NetBackup 5240 2017 2024–2025 Recommended
NetBackup 5340 (mit Storage Shelves) 2018 2025–2026 Supported
NetBackup 5350 2021+ ca. 2028+ Supported

FAQ on NetBackup Appliance maintenance

Which NetBackup Appliance models do you service?
Complete NetBackup Appliance family: NB 5230 (older, EOSL reached), 5240 (mid-range, 2017), 5340 with Storage Shelves (modularly scalable to multi-PB) and 5350 (current generation, 2021+). Including all NL-SAS disks, MSDP cache SSDs, controller boards and connectivity components (10/25 GbE, 16/32G FC).
What does TPM cost for NetBackup Appliances compared to Veritas Support?
30 to 60 percent savings. An NB 5340 with 24×7×4 costs 14,000 to 22,000 EUR/year with Veritas, 6,000 to 10,000 EUR with TechCare. NB 5350 with full population higher in absolute terms. For EOSL NB 5230 fleets we see up to 70 percent — Veritas often no longer offers renewal.
What does the Cohesity acquisition mean for our NetBackup investment?
Veritas was acquired by Cohesity in late 2023, the merger took place in 2024. NetBackup software continues to be developed under the Cohesity umbrella, but strategic roadmap decisions — maintenance terms, EOSL cycles, support tier definitions — are less transparent for existing customers in the 2-3 year view than before. TPM contracts give you 3-5 years of stable terms, independent of strategic pivots.
Do NetBackup software and MSDP deduplication continue to work?
Yes, fully. NetBackup software licenses, MSDP deduplication, NetBackup Accelerator, Auto Image Replication, Catalyst and all backup functions are part of your software subscription and independent of hardware maintenance. TPM maintenance replaces only the hardware maintenance portion — software subscription stays with Veritas. Code updates to newer NetBackup versions still require an active Veritas contract.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for NetBackup Appliances?
NetBackup Appliances are backup targets — backup windows are typically at night, an overnight outage is usually acceptable. 5×9 NBD is economically appropriate and our recommendation. For NB 5350 as primary backup target for tier-1 workloads (e.g. SAP HANA backup, Oracle DB), 24×7×4 may make sense. For secondary 5230 as replication target, Parts Only often suffices.
Can you service older EOSL NB 5230?
Yes, a focus area of our Veritas business. NB 5230 (released 2014, EOSL 2021-2022) are still productive in many DACH mid-market and enterprise backup environments. We stock NL-SAS disks, cache modules and controller boards for this generation. NetBackup software on 5230 continues to work — the Veritas software subscription is independent of hardware maintenance.
Can we have NetBackup, Flex and Access in one TPM contract?
Yes. Multi-class contracts are our strength — NetBackup Appliances as primary backup targets, Flex Appliances as multi-tenant consolidation, Access Appliances as long-term retention — all in one contract, one point of contact, one SLA report set. Plus all other vendors (Dell, HPE, Quantum, etc.) in the same construct.
How fast do we get a quote?
Within 48 hours after receipt of your inventory list with model, generation, Storage Shelf configuration and serial number.
