Supermicro Twin / BigTwin / FatTwin Maintenance — vendor-independent service

We service Supermicro Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin multi-node servers after factory warranty and Supermicro support — vendor-independent, with OEM mainboards, CPUs, RAM, NVMe SSDs, shared power supplies, backplanes and fan modules from our own warehouse, SLA up to 24×7×4. 30 to 60 percent below Supermicro support.

Which multi-node models we service

Multi-node architecture is more complex from a maintenance perspective than standard rack: 4-8 nodes share chassis, power supplies, backplanes and cooling — component defects can affect multiple nodes. Three classes: Twin²/TwinPro, BigTwin, FatTwin.

Twin² / TwinPro · 4 nodes / 2U
SYS-6029TP-TR · SYS-2029TP-HC1R · SYS-220BT-HNC8R
BigTwin · higher density
SYS-2029BT-HNR · SYS-6029BT-DNR · SYS-220BT-DNC8R
FatTwin · 8 nodes / 4U
SYS-F619P2-RTN · SYS-F628R2-RC0BPT · SYS-F629P3-RTBN
Shared components
Power supplies (redundant PS) · backplanes · fan modules · chassis management

Why TPM maintenance for Twin multi-node

Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin have higher maintenance complexity than standard rack — power supply defects or backplane problems can affect multiple nodes simultaneously, making fast response times critical. Supermicro support for Twin platforms is correspondingly higher: typically 1,800-3,500 EUR/year per Twin chassis (4 nodes) at 24×7×4. TPM reduces this to 35-50 percent.

We service Twin platforms with OEM mainboards, CPUs, RAM and NVMe SSDs for standalone node components, plus OEM power supplies, backplanes and fan modules for shared chassis components. For FatTwin HPC clusters we also stock InfiniBand HCAs and high-speed NICs (100/200G).

Generations timeline & TPM coverage

Per hardware generation: vendor phase (slate) and TechCare coverage window (teal) up to ~5 years post-OEM EOSL.

EOSL status of Twin generations

Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin follow the same 7-9 year lifecycle as SuperServer Rack. X11 Twins in mid-cycle, X12 and X13 current.

Model family Released OEM support ends TPM status
X11 Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin 2017–2020 2025–2027 Supported
X12 Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin 2021–2022 2028–2029 Supported
X13 Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin 2023+ ca. 2030+ Supported

FAQ on Twin multi-node maintenance

Which Twin models do you service?
Complete Twin family: Twin²/TwinPro (SYS-6029TP-TR, SYS-2029TP-HC1R, SYS-220BT-HNC8R — 4 nodes in 2U), BigTwin (SYS-2029BT-HNR, SYS-6029BT-DNR, SYS-220BT-DNC8R — higher density), FatTwin (SYS-F619P2-RTN, SYS-F628R2-RC0BPT, SYS-F629P3-RTBN — 8 nodes in 4U).
What does TPM cost for Twin compared to Supermicro support?
30-60% savings. Twin² (4 nodes) 24×7×4: Supermicro 1,800-2,500 EUR, TechCare 800-1,200 EUR. BigTwin: 2,200-3,200 vs 1,000-1,500. FatTwin (8 nodes): 3,500-5,000 vs 1,500-2,300. HPC cluster with 12-16 FatTwin chassis: five-figure annual savings.
How do you service shared components in multi-node chassis?
Shared components (power supplies, backplanes, fan modules, chassis management) are treated as more critical than standalone node components — defect of a shared part can affect multiple nodes simultaneously. We stock shared components in higher depth and guarantee onsite replacement within 4-hour window at 24×7×4 SLA. For productive HPC clusters we recommend spare power supplies on-site.
When does Twin make sense vs. standard rack vs. blade?
Twin/BigTwin density-optimized (more nodes per RU than standard rack) at lower cost than blade systems — fit for HPC clusters, HCI, VDI hosts and web-tier scaling. FatTwin is HPC-specific with 8 nodes/4U for InfiniBand clusters. Standard rack fits workloads where density is not primary.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for Twin?
Twin in productive HPC clusters or HCI setups: 24×7×4 with German-speaking onsite engineer standard. Large FatTwin fleets with n+1 cluster redundancy: 5×9 NBD per chassis justifiable. On-site spare power supplies recommended for critical productive clusters.
Can we get InfiniBand HCAs and high-speed NICs for FatTwin?
Yes. InfiniBand HCAs (Mellanox/NVIDIA ConnectX-5/6/7 in EDR/HDR/NDR speeds) and high-speed Ethernet NICs (100G/200G/400G) we supply for FatTwin HPC clusters from our own warehouse. Plus DDR/HDR/NDR InfiniBand switches and cables as complement coverage.
Can you also cover multi-distributor fleets?
Yes, explicitly our focus for Supermicro. Twin platforms in DACH often bought through specialized HPC distributors (Thomas Krenn, Boston Server & Storage, NEC Deutschland) — maintenance runs through distributor or directly with Supermicro. TPM consolidates in one contract.
Can we have Twin, standard rack and GPU servers in the same contract?
Yes. Multi-class contracts are our strength — Supermicro Twin/BigTwin/FatTwin, standard rack, GPU SuperServer, SuperStorage and older X9/X10/X11 — all in one contract. Plus all other vendors (Dell, HPE, Lenovo).
