Extreme X-Series Maintenance — vendor-independent service from X440-G2 to X870

We service Extreme ExtremeSwitching X-Series switches after factory warranty and Extreme NSA — vendor-independent, with OEM power supplies, fan trays, switches and optics, SLA up to 24×7×4. Complete X family: X440-G2/X450-G2/X460-G2 (campus edge), X465/X590/X690 (aggregation), X670-G2/X870 (data center with 40/100G). 30 to 60 percent below Extreme NSA.

Which X-Series models we service

The ExtremeSwitching X-Series (formerly Summit platform) is Extreme's main product line for campus, aggregation and data center switching. Three classes with clear use case separation: X440-G2/X450-G2/X460-G2 as campus edge with 1G/10G connectivity and PoE+, X465/X590/X690 as aggregation layer with higher backplane capacity, X670-G2/X870 as data center platform with 40G and 100G for spine-leaf fabrics. All X models run on EXOS (Extreme XOS) and are managed via ExtremeCloud IQ.

Why TPM maintenance for Extreme X-Series

Extreme NSA sits in the middle market segment — larger campus deployments with 50-200 X-Series switches drive annual maintenance terms quickly into five-figure amounts. For X670-G2/X870 data center setups (40/100G with higher hardware value), NSA rates are even higher. TPM reduces this to 40-50 percent. The hardware layer of X-Series is manageable (single-ASIC boxes, standard power supplies, standard fan trays) — maintenance value comes primarily from component inventory and SLA response time.

We service X-Series with OEM power supplies, fan trays, switches and optics from our own warehouse. For X fleets, generation variety is manageable — X440-G2 and X450-G2 are the most common models in DACH campus setups, X670-G2 and X870 in mid-size data centers. EXOS (Extreme XOS) and ExtremeCloud IQ management continue without licensing — TPM only affects the hardware layer.

FAQ on Extreme X-Series maintenance

Which X-Series models do you service?
Complete X family: X440-G2 (12t/24t/48t campus edge), X450-G2 (24t/48t with extended features), X460-G2 (campus with higher backplane), X465 (24S/48S aggregation), X590 (24t), X690 (48x), X670-G2 (48x for data center with 40G), X870 (32c for data center with 100G). Including all power supplies, fan trays and optics modules.
What does TPM cost for X-Series compared to Extreme NSA?
30 to 60 percent savings. An X450-G2-48t with 24×7×4 costs 1,400 to 2,200 EUR/year with Extreme, 600 to 950 EUR with TechCare. X670-G2 correspondingly 2,500-4,000 EUR NSA, 1,100-1,700 EUR TechCare. X870 with 100G 4,500-7,000 EUR NSA, 2,000-3,000 EUR TechCare. For a campus deployment with 100 X switches and 24×7×4: 140,000-220,000 EUR NSA, 60,000-95,000 EUR TechCare.
Do EXOS and ExtremeCloud IQ continue to work without an NSA contract?
EXOS (Extreme XOS, the switch OS) continues to work on your switches without licensing — all layer 2/3 functions, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, MLAG, VLAN, PoE+ remain functional. Code updates to newer EXOS versions require an active Extreme contract. ExtremeCloud IQ (central cloud management platform) is software subscription independent of hardware maintenance — customers actively using ExtremeCloud IQ keep the subscription with Extreme. TPM only replaces the hardware layer.
Can you service older X440-G2?
Yes. X440-G2 (released 2016, EOSL from 2025-2026) is still productive in DACH campus deployments — typically in stable office and edge setups that don't necessarily need refresh. We stock switches, power supplies and optics for X440-G2. EXOS on older X440-G2 continues to work — typically uncritical because edge switches rarely need configuration changes.
Can we get optics for Extreme X-Series?
Yes. We supply optics as certified third-party optics or original Extreme optics — both options technically compatible. 1G/10G/40G/100G optics in SFP/SFP+/QSFP+/QSFP28 form factor. DAC and AOC cables as well. Third-party optics are typically 50-70 percent cheaper than original Extreme optics, technically identical — Extreme EXOS accepts them without restriction.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for X-Series?
Campus edge X440-G2/X450-G2/X460-G2: 5×9 NBD is typically economical — single edge switch failure affects only one office area. Aggregation X465/X590/X690: 24×7×4 because aggregation outage affects multiple edge switches. Data center X670-G2/X870: 24×7×4 with German-speaking onsite engineer mandatory — data center spine outage affects the entire fabric. Multi-site contracts with mixed SLA levels are standard in practice.
Can we have X-Series, VSP, ERS and Wireless in the same contract?
Yes. Multi-class contracts are our strength — X-Series, VSP (Avaya heritage), ERS (Enterasys heritage) and ExtremeWireless access points — all in one contract, one point of contact, one SLA report set. Plus all other vendors (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, etc.) in the same construct.
How fast do we get a quote?
Within 48 hours after receipt of your inventory list with model, port configuration and serial number.
