EATON 9PX / 9SX / 9PXM · TPM FOR MID-RANGE UPS

Eaton 9PX & 9SX & 9PXM Maintenance — vendor-independent service for mid-range UPS with module coverage

We service Eaton mid-range UPS vendor-independent — three sub-classes under one contract: Eaton 9PX series (5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, 10kVA, 11kVA — on-line topology monolithic for highest power quality), Eaton 9SX series (5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, 11kVA — line-interactive variant) and Eaton 9PXM Modular (4kW, 8kW, 12kW, 16kW, 20kW — modular scaling with hot-swap power modules, battery modules and intelligence cards). With OEM components and certified refurbishing pools. SLA up to 24×7×4. 30 to 50 percent below Eaton Service Plans. 9PXM specific: Modular architecture is the USP — individual power modules, battery modules or intelligence modules can be hot-swapped during operation, UPS stays online. Comparable to APC Symmetra architecture, cost-effective in acquisition price, ideal for scalable mid-market datacenter configurations with growth requirements. Competitive position: 9PX/9SX competes directly with APC Smart-UPS SRT and APC Symmetra LX, 9PXM with APC Symmetra LX. We service all mid-range UPS classes cross-vendor under one contract — typical for DACH datacenters with multi-vendor fleets.

Which 9PX, 9SX and 9PXM models we service

Eaton 9PX/9SX/9PXM family has three clearly separated architectures for different mid-range use cases: 9PX offers on-line double conversion for highest power quality (standard for critical server workloads, frequency-sensitive applications), 9SX offers line-interactive topology as cost-effective alternative for less critical configurations with same power class. 9PXM is the modular class with replaceable modules — power modules provide scalable capacity (4kW per module), battery modules scale autonomy, intelligence modules (Network Management) separately replaceable. From TPM perspective we service all three architectures with respective refurbishing pools.

Why TPM maintenance for Eaton 9PX, 9SX and 9PXM

Eaton 9PX/9SX/9PXM is the mid-range class with high DACH penetration — typical in mid-sized server rooms, backup UPS in rack rows and smaller datacenter configurations. Eaton Service Plans for mid-range UPS range 800-3,500 EUR/year by size and SLA tier. TPM reduces this 30-50 percent below, with transparent module pricing logic for 9PXM (fixed price per module swap, not included in premium package). For larger fleets with 10+ 9PX/9SX UPS or 5+ 9PXM systems, maintenance savings add to four-figure annual amounts. 9PXM multi-class leverage: Those running 9PXM with growth configurations (today 8kW, planned 16kW in 18 months) benefit especially — TPM contract is flexible, covers module extensions easily without new OEM service negotiations per extension.

We service Eaton 9PX/9SX/9PXM with OEM components and deep refurbishing pools. Current 9PX generation (from 2015) and 9SX (from 2017) completely in active pool — same component logic as current mid-range classes from other UPS vendors. 9PXM (from 2018) similar — power modules, battery modules and intelligence modules available across all power classes. Older 9PX generations under Powerware branding (pre-2015) more structured — refurbishing pool covers common swap needs (mainboards, fans, LCD displays, power supplies). Pulsar predecessors (Eaton sub-brand before 9PX/9SX migration) checked individually per model. Battery service identical to APC Smart-UPS logic: original Eaton battery packs or certified compatible alternatives selectable, BattG/EU-compliant disposal. 9PXM hot-swap: Module swap during operation with bypass circuit — our engineers specialized on 9PXM architecture, same service depth as APC Symmetra LX.

FAQ on 9PX/9SX/9PXM maintenance

Which Eaton mid-range UPS models do you service?
Complete mid-range family: 9PX series (5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, 10kVA, 11kVA — on-line topology monolithic), 9SX series (5kVA, 6kVA, 8kVA, 11kVA — line-interactive) and 9PXM Modular (4kW, 8kW, 12kW, 16kW, 20kW — modular scaling). Plus older 9PX generations under Powerware branding (pre-2015) and Pulsar predecessors (Eaton sub-brand before 9PX/9SX migration) on request. Including all battery packs (original Eaton or certified alternatives), power modules for 9PXM, battery modules for 9PXM, intelligence modules, static switch, fans, LCD displays, mainboards and Network Management Cards.
How does module swap during operation for 9PXM (hot-swap) work?
9PXM's modular architecture allows hot-swap of most module classes without UPS stop — similar to APC Symmetra LX with Eaton-specific implementation. Concrete logic: Power modules (4kW per module): with N+1 redundancy a single power module can be removed and swapped, UPS stays online via remaining modules. With N configuration (no redundancy buffer) bypass circuit active during swap. Battery modules: hot-swap-capable — battery frames removed individually, UPS runs via other battery frames or in bypass mode with reduced autonomy. Intelligence modules (Network Management): hot-swap possible, UPS functionality stays active (only remote monitoring briefly interrupted). Our onsite engineer checks current redundancy configuration before each swap and plans procedure with your datacenter team. Practically zero downtime in N+1 configurations, brief bypass phase in N configurations.
What does 9PX/9SX/9PXM TPM cost compared to Eaton Service Plans?
30 to 50 percent savings on hardware maintenance component. 9PX 6kVA with 24×7×4: Eaton On-Site Service Plan typically 800-1,300 EUR/year, TechCare 400-650 EUR. 9PX 11kVA: 1,500-2,300 vs 750-1,150. 9SX 6kVA: 600-1,000 vs 300-500 (cost-effective vs 9PX due to line-interactive architecture). 9PXM 12kW: 2,200-3,500 vs 1,000-1,700. 9PXM 20kW: 3,500-5,500 vs 1,500-2,700. Module swap fixed price per module, transparently calculable — 9PXM 4kW power module typically 600-1,000 EUR net per swap, battery module similar. For 9PXM fleets with growth configuration (module extensions planned), TPM pricing transparency particularly valuable because Eaton service contracts with module pricing often calculated flat-rate.
Do IPM, IPP and Network Management continue without an Eaton contract?
Yes, all. For 9PX/9SX/9PXM same disclosure logic as for 9PHD/9395 (see high-end spoke). Network Management Card (integrated in 9PX/9SX or as separate Network-MS card) continues license-free — SNMP monitoring, web UI, email alerts, energy logging, all standard functions active. IPP (Intelligent Power Protector) is Eaton's server shutdown software, freely available and runs independently of hardware maintenance. IPM (Intelligent Power Manager) in Basic Edition freely available — Premium Edition with multi-UPS management, VMware integration and reporting is separate software subscription at Eaton, independent of hardware maintenance. 9PXM telemetry (module status, battery module status, load levels per module) runs license-free via integrated intelligence module logic. Network Management Card firmware updates require active Eaton contract but uncritical with stable mid-range configurations.
Which SLA levels do you recommend for 9PX, 9SX and 9PXM?
Mid-range UPS logic: UPS already a redundancy layer, relativizes hardware SLA requirement. 9PX 8-11kVA in productive server rooms with critical workloads (tier-1 apps, databases): 24×7×4 for very critical environments, 5×9 NBD typically sufficient if bypass circuit active and alternative power source available. 9SX in mid-market server rooms with standard workloads: 5×9 NBD per UPS is standard. 9PXM in modular-scaling mid-range datacenter setups with N+1 module redundancy: 5×9 NBD per system economically appropriate because module failure absorbed within system. 9PXM without module redundancy (N configuration): 24×7×4 mandatory for critical workloads because single module failure directly affects UPS functionality. 9PX/9SX in branch offices and ROBO: Parts Only or 5×9 NBD sufficient due to lower workload criticality. Battery refresh independent of hardware SLA and typically handled in planned windows — no 24×7 need.
Do you supply original Eaton battery packs or compatible third-party batteries?
Both — you choose per fleet or per swap. Original Eaton battery packs available in our warehouse, with full compatibility to Eaton's battery telemetry and lifecycle tracking on Network Management Card. Certified compatible battery packs 30-40 percent cheaper at technically equivalent specification (same voltage, capacity, form factor) — tested for compatibility with Eaton 9PX/9SX charging logic and 9PXM battery module authentication. Both options come with warranty (typically 1-2 years on battery modules). Important: current 9PX/9SX models require battery authentication via Network Management Card — for compatible third-party battery packs this authentication typically given, for very generic alternatives there can be telemetry restrictions (Battery Last Replace Date not auto-updated). We recommend original Eaton battery packs for 9PXM with active IPM monitoring, certified compatible alternatives for pure 9PX/9SX configurations without active multi-UPS IPM.
Can you service older Powerware 9PX and Pulsar predecessors?
Yes, with constraints. Powerware 9PX (pre-Eaton 9PX branding migration ca. 2015) still common in DACH fleets, especially in mid-market server rooms with long hardware usage. Eaton support for older Powerware 9PX models largely discontinued — TPM only remaining maintenance option. Hardware components (mainboards, fans, LCD displays, battery packs) structured available in refurbishing pools, lead times possible. Pulsar predecessors (Eaton sub-brand before 9PX/9SX, pre-2010) older — refurbishing pool smaller, individual coverage assessment per model. For very old Pulsar models (pre-2005) we check coverage individually and advise honestly — typically refresh-to-current-9PX-or-9SX question on the table because older hardware is energy-inefficient and lacks modern power quality reports.
Can we have 9PX, 9SX, 9PXM, 9PHD/9395 and 5PX/5SC/ePDU in the same contract?
Yes, natural multi-class Eaton consolidation across all UPS classes. Multi-class Eaton contract covers: 9PHD/9395 (high-end for primary datacenter power) plus 9PX/9SX/9PXM (mid-range for server rooms and backup UPS) plus 5PX/5SC (mid-market for branch offices) plus ePDU (power distribution) in one construct — one point of contact, unified SLA reporting, German-speaking onsite engineer with Eaton high-end competence for 9PHD/9395 plus standard service for 9PX/9SX/9PXM/5PX/5SC and ePDU, shared battery refresh logic across all UPS classes. Plus: other vendors (APC Smart-UPS/Symmetra/Galaxy, Vertiv Liebert, Mitsubishi UPS, Riello UPS or server/storage/network hardware Dell/HPE/NetApp/Cisco) can be consolidated in same contract — multi-vendor TPM explicitly our strength, especially for datacenters with mixed UPS vendor landscape (typical through historical fleet evolution or strategic multi-vendor policy).
