Cost comparison

OEM list-price share approx. 10–18 % of list price per year (warranty extension incl. advance replacement)

Example branch network with 300 1900EF routers and 120 GS-3528XP switches on NBD replacement: TechCare roughly 35–50 % below the manufacturer extension, cold spares per site included.

EOSL hardware: For EOSL lines (1781 routers, GS-2300 switches, LN access points) the manufacturer no longer offers an extension — we keep them under SLA as long as replacement units can be sourced.
Multi-year contract: Multi-year contract with site rating: critical sites 24×7×4 with cold spare, remote offices NBD — selectable per device.

Why TPM for LANCOM routers instead of warranty extension

The manufacturer sells hardware support as a warranty extension with advance replacement — only at purchase, only for current models. For the 1781 and early 1800 generations there is no option any more, although hundreds of them run in authorities, schools and branch networks.

We cover the entire fleet: replacement unit per SLA, cold spares per site, configuration restore from LCOS backup or LMC and a ticket desk with site logic. LMC licences, firmware and VPN options stay with the manufacturer — we replace the device, not the software.

OEM vs. TechCare — where the switch pays off

The full OEM-vs-TPM matrix (spare parts, SLA tiers, language, sub-outsourcing, compliance docs, reporting) is the same for every LANCOM line — see the LANCOM battle card.

Stays with LANCOM

  • LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC) licences
  • Serial-bound software options (VPN, content filter, Public Spot) and Unified Firewall licences incl. transfer
  • LCOS firmware and manufacturer hotline for software questions

Moves to TechCare

  • Replacement unit or spare part per SLA (Parts Only, NBD, 24×7×4)
  • Cold spares per site, configuration restore from backup or LMC
  • Ticket desk with site logic and return of defective units
  • One contract for LANCOM plus all other manufacturers in the network
05

DACH compliance by design.

BAIT/MaRisk documentation package, DORA Art. 28 contract template, ISO 27001 and GDPR-compliant media handling apply identically to every LANCOM line — details on the LANCOM battle card.

06

Migration path from first contact to hand-over.

Same four steps for every LANCOM line: inventory → fixed-price quote in 48 h → contract (BAIT/MaRisk/DORA hooks) → hand-over with spare-parts provisioning. Details on the LANCOM battle card.

FAQ on LANCOM router maintenance

Do you also take current devices into the contract, not only old ones?
Yes. Model designation and serial number are all we need, regardless of age. We take current generations after the manufacturer warranty ends or in parallel as hardware cover.
What happens to LANCOM licences and software options when a unit is replaced?
It depends on the device. Routers, switches and access points run LCOS without a licence; for LMC-managed devices the “Replace” function in LANCOM Management Cloud transfers configuration and LMC licence to a unit of the same type. Paid software options (e.g. VPN or content-filter option), by contrast, are bound to the serial number, and Unified Firewall licences belong to the hardware too. Their transfer or reissue runs through LANCOM or your LANCOM partner. Our core business is hardware break-fix: we deliver the replacement unit, restore the configuration and support your licence request — the licence itself is not part of our contract.
How is the configuration transferred to the replacement unit?
From your LCOS configuration backup or directly from LANCOM Management Cloud. With a prepared unit, the swap at a branch site takes a few minutes; the on-site technician or your site contact swaps following our guidance.
Do VPN options, content filter and LMC licences remain valid?
Yes. These are manufacturer software services and continue unchanged; licences are transferred to the new serial number, we guide the step.
Which SLA tiers do you offer?
Parts Only, 5×9 NBD and 24×7×4 — selectable per device and site. For 4-hour commitments we keep cold spares at the site.
What if an EOSL model can no longer be sourced?
Then we deliver the equivalent successor model and migrate the configuration. You decide whether the fleet keeps running or is renewed selectively.
